Who We Are
Jim Rees Sr. Built Willowbrook Golf Course in 1931
after visiting Riverside G.C. on a Sunday. Had he visited on a Monday our
lives would be drastically different.
After World War II James Rees Jr. became Superintendent and partners with
his two brothers-in-law (Joe Taylor, of Sycamore Springs and Chet Bockoski)
In 1962 Jim bought the Kellum Farm and started building and designing the
9 holes of Friendswood G.C.
Willowbrook closed in 1966 and Jim moved his family to Camby. All four of
his children and wife (the late Peggy Graves) worked on the Golf Course
in various capacities.
The last 18 years Jim's middle daughter Sara Jean
Rees has been General Manager while he eases into retirement. Sara is
a member of the Midwest Regional Turf Foundation and a Certified Chemical
Applicator.
Now, in 2006, Sara's son David Christie is the fourth generation to follow
in the long tradition of golf in the family. Dave has been a big part of Friendswood's
success as he worked his way through business
school as Golf Course Manager and Superintendent.
Friendswood is family owned and operated. Bring your family out to see us, we're always open.
